Paid Social — Part 3: After the Ads

Congratulations on completing your ad campaigns! Now it's time to extract valuable insights from our efforts.

Let's assess the success of our ads, draw lessons learned, and strategize for future plans!

WHY MEASURE YOUR ADS?

While working in social media or marketing, understanding what worked and what didn't is crucial. It's about analyzing the effectiveness of your efforts and understanding the impact your campaigns have had on both your audience and your company.

WHY SHOULD YOU ALWAYS ANALYZE ADS TO STRENGTHEN YOUR STRATEGY?

Analyzing ads is pivotal for several reasons:

  1. Insight into Success: By measuring your ads, you gain insights into their performance, enabling you to replicate successful strategies and avoid repeating ineffective ones.

  2. Optimizing Resource Allocation: Analysis helps in optimizing resource allocation by identifying which channels and messages resonate best with your target audience. Not every channel is for everyone; understanding which channels are the most active among your followers will allow you to spend your time targeting your audience where they are.

  3. Improving Return On Investment: Understanding what works allows you to refine your approach, ultimately improving return on investment (ROI).

  4. Enhancing Consumer Experience: Analyzing ads helps in pinpointing areas of improvement in the consumer journey, ensuring a seamless and engaging experience. You can pinpoint at what point in the user journey we lost people and fix that specific problem. Or vice versa, if your link clicks are high, that means your ad is engaging; the visuals are where they want to be.

WHAT ARE THE BEST KPIs TO TRACK?

There's no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to KPIs since each campaign has unique goals and measures of success. However, focusing on KPIs that showcase the consumer journey is often the most valuable. For instance:

  1. Engagement Rate: This metric reflects the average number of people who saw your ad and engaged with it, providing an idea of audience interest and ad appeal.

  2. Conversion Rate: If your goal is conversion, tracking conversion rates helps in assessing the effectiveness of your ad in turning leads into buyers or achieving other desired actions.

  3. Click-Through Rate (CTR): CTR indicates the percentage of users who clicked on your ad after seeing it, offering insights into the effectiveness of your ad copy and visuals.

It's essential to avoid falling into the trap of vanity metrics and instead focus on metrics that align with your specific goals and drive meaningful actions from your audience. What would you prefer, a million link clicks and only 100 conversions or 400 link clicks and 100 conversions? Vanity metrics do not measure the success of your ads. It’s not about how many clicks you had; it's about how many valuable clicks you have.

WHAT IF MY AD WAS SUCCESSFUL?

If your ad campaign was successful, congratulations are in order! Success can manifest in various forms depending on your objectives. Whether it's increased sales, higher newsletter sign-ups, or any other desired actions, achieving your goals signifies a job well done. Now, it's time to leverage these insights and successes to inform future strategies and continue driving positive outcomes for your business. What worked, make a note! What could possibly be improved, make a note! Where can you reach higher? There are lots of opportunities to continue creating an easy user journey and appealing ads that tell your story.
